Nowra & Eden - South Coast NSW

The Summer bushfires on the South Coast of NSW impacted not only the environment, communities, animal and human life, but also the local economy and people’s livelihoods that rely on peak tourism months to survive. When tragedy strikes, Australia bands together and on this tour, we can support the South Coast communities.

We have left ample time to purchase lunch in these towns which will be greatly appreciated and by visiting the area we can inject the type of tourism support the area is hoping to receive.

Apart from the dolphins we should also see local sea birds such as the white breasted sea eagles, crested terns, yellow headed boobies, shearwaters and pelicans. Back on dry land have lunch at the nearby Club Jervis Bay and a little free time to explore this quaint beachside township.
This afternoon visit the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum. The centre houses the only wooden ferry left in NSW, the Lady Denman, which was built in Huskisson in 1911, as well as an Art Gallery, Maritime Museum and some beautiful gardens to explore.

Day 3

Some of the areas worst affected by the January bushfires are on - and around - the South Coast of New South Wales. Who will forget the images of Mogo – small villages decimated by the fires. Visit the Mogo Zoo - after closing for a couple of months after the fires the Park officially re-opened on 1st March. Here there are lions, giraffes, tigers, jaguars, snow leopards (the only breeding pair in the country), a variety of monkeys, red pandas, small clawed otters to mention just some of the animals we will meet today.
After enjoying lunch at Narooma Golf Club travel to Cobargo, the township itself was one of the largest affected towns by the bushfire - luckily the wonderful Cobargo Farm was saved. We are here for a tour and afternoon tea. This unique open garden farm is on 16 acres on the outskirts of Cobargo’s historical working village. It produces fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as ferns, plants, flowers and seedlings. Back on the coach we have about an hour drive to Eden and check into our motel for the next 3 nights.

Day 4

Following breakfast, commence our touring with the help of a local guide for an informative trip around Eden. We farewell our guide and head to the Killer Whale Museum and view the skeleton of "Old Tom" the killer whale, plus many other items of interest and history. Late morning arrive in nearby Boydtown for our lunch stop. Benjamin Boyd, the son of a London Banker established Boydtown at Twofold Bay in the mid 1800’s as his headquarters from where he ran his whaling and grazing exploits. Boyd had grandiose ideas of developing Boydtown to a stage not only to rival nearby Eden but Sydney itself. His grand plans for Boydtown never eventuated and the only buildings erected were Boyd’s Church, the Lookout Tower and the Seahorse Inn. Here we’ll enjoy a light lunch in the Brasserie of the Seahorse Inn.
Return to Eden and make our way to the wharf where we board Cat Balou Cruises for our afternoon cruise. After cruising around the southern section of Twofold Bay, Cat Balou heads south towards Greencape Lighthouse viewing stunning rock formations, Mowarry Beach, Saltwater Creek and - subject to weather - entering picturesque Bittangabee Bay. We return to Eden and have some free time before dinner at the motel.

Next up travel the short distance to Merimbula and the Merimbula Aquarium. From sharks to shrimps, octopus to tropical fish, it's all on display here at the living theatre of the deep. Our tour guide will talk us through the 27 fish tank aquariums and a fantastic ocean tank. We then have some free time in town for a retail fix and to purchase lunch.
