Welcome aboard Martins touring Coach for departure from Wodonga Plaza, Smythe Street at 7.00am, Albury Rail at 7.15am and Lavington Shopping Centre, Griffith Road at 7.30am for our very special 3-day tour to our National Capital, Canberra. We have a brief morning tea stop at Gundagai before making our way north.
Arriving at the CBD, Canberra Centre, we have some time to purchase lunch, stretch our legs and browse at your leisure. Our afternoon is spent at the Australian War Memorial. Combining a shrine, world class museum and extensive archive, the memorials’ purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of Australia’s who have died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. Wander the impressive exhibitions and sombre ceremonial areas including the Hall of Memory, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Pool of Reflection. We are farewelled with the moving Last Post Ceremony featuring the national anthem, pipers lament and individual story, ode recited by defence force personnel and ending with the Last Post. What an incredible experience. On arrival we check into our accommodation – our base for the next 2 nights.

Today marks the anniversary of the landing of ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) troops at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. We will remember them.

Early this morning, we return to the Australian War Memorial to take part in the Dawn Service commencing at 5.30am. After breakfast at the hotel, we will see the Commemorative Address followed by the veterans’ march. Next we make a brief visit to the Royal Australian Mint, where we discover the mint is more than a factory that produces coins, but is an award winning national cultural attraction and heritage site. Take in some of the city sights as we travel through Embassy Row, finding embassies and high commissions of countries from around the world. Look out for the spectacular traditional design of the Chinese Embassy or the splendid Georgian style United States Embassy before enjoying a delicious seafood lunch at Snapper & Co. It’s all aboard now for our Government House Gardens Cruise upon the MV Southern Cross. We’ll take in the spectacular Lake Burley Griffith as we cruise to the Historic Governor-General’s Official Residence for an exclusive tour of the grounds hosted by volunteers from the Australiana Fund. We complete our afternoon with a group photo stop at Mount Ainslie Lookout. What a fantastic way to end our day and time in Canberra!

Sadly, our tour has come to an end today. After we check out of our hotel and farewell our hosts, we make our way to the Internationally renowned National Arboretum Canberra. Created as a place of breathtaking beauty, you’ll experience the world’s largest living collections of rare, endangered and significant trees. The views over Lake Burley Griffin and Government House are sensational! Our guide will join us on board, pointing out all the highlights along the way. Next up we go behind the scenes discovering Art and Architecture of the National Library – there is more to the library than just books! We are enjoying our time here so much we stay on for an early lunch at the iconic Bookplate Café where stunning floor to ceiling stained glass windows surround us. It’s now time to sit back and relax as we continue through to Gundagai – home to the famous “Dog on the Tuckerbox.” We arrive home late afternoon with many beautiful memories of our special trip to Canberra.
