DAY 1

WODONGA / ALBURY—GRIFFITH SUNDAY 9TH OCTOBER, 2022
Welcome aboard today for departure on our holiday to celebrate the spring awakening, Griffith and the Annual Griffith Spring Festival. Depart Wodonga Plaza, Smythe Street at 7.30am, Albury Rail 7.45am and Lavington Shopping Centre Griffith Road 8.00am. After loading the coach and completing our passenger pick up service, we are ready to go! From Albury we travel to Lockhart for our morning tea stop at the bakery and we spend some time looking at the Farm Art Sculptures. We will be seeing quite a few of these sculptures on our way to Griffith today that have been created by local Urana Sculptor Andrew Whitehead. Andrew is an emerging figurative scrap metal sculptor specializing in upcycled large public artworks of creatures both real and imaginary as well as local historical subjects. Created from recycled farm materials and reflecting the natural elements of the land, many of the beautiful sculptures on display are award winning pieces from Lockhart’s Spirit of the Land Festival, a celebration to the resilience of those who live and work on the land.
Next we are off to Boree Creek and take a look at the sculpture that is dedicated to the former Deputy Prime Minister - Tim Fischer. The sculpture shows a likeness of Tim Fischer riding a small green steam train. Continuing to Morundah we take a look at the Toolbox Horse and Jockey Sculpture, before lunch at the Morundah Hotel. Travelling via Narrandera we take a brief look at the Water Tower Mural, then at the Whitton Malt House where we break for afternoon tea. This afternoon we arrive in Griffith and welcome a local guide on board the coach for a tour before heading to our accommodation to settle in before dinner.

DAY 2

GRIFFITH MONDAY 10TH OCTOBER
During springtime thousands of travelers flock to Griffith to view and admire the magnificent Citrus Sculptures. More than 70 larger than life 3D structures adorn the main street of Griffith. Created using more than 100,000 oranges, 100,000 rubber bands, a dedicated project manager and an army of volunteers, these sculptures are most impressive and unique to Australia. The Griffith Spring Festival is celebrated during the two week Citrus Sculpture display. Local garden owners open their homes to share their passion for gardening. We will make a stop at the Visitors Centre for an introduction and then enjoy some of the Garden Festival activities. We have a full day programmed including a tour of a number of private gardens and of course time to take in the citrus sculptures. It will be a fun spring day of colour.

DAY 3

GRIFFITH – ALBURY/ WODONGA TUESDAY 11TH OCTOBER
We farewell our hosts this morning and have one final visit before starting the journey home. From our motel we have a short drive to our morning visit at Pioneer Park. Here there are some 40 historic buildings showing the development of Griffith from the early 1900’s when it was called Bagtown - because of the canal builders, who used the hession supply bags to build their humpies. Contained within Pioneer Park is the Knitted Garden, along with the Italian Museum and the Wine & Irrigation Centre. We have plenty of time to look at the numerous displays, then depart Griffith.Next we visit a farm and local identity, Libby Bailey of Rocking Horse Restorations in nearby Murrami. Libby took up rocking horse restoration to ward off depression when all on the farm had dried up. A true example of country ingenuity! The Bailey’s have also amassed quite a collection of other things such as hand tools and antique items amongst the lovingly restored rocking horses themselves. Libby will provide us with lunch and a tour of her work.
From here we head home to Albury / Wodonga arriving approximately 6.30pm.
