DAY 3

AROUND PORT LINCOLN SUNDAY 12TH MAY
Following breakfast a local guide joins the coach for a tour of the area. We’ll learn that Port Lincoln was initially considered as the alternative site for South Australia’s capital before Adelaide was chosen. Our next appointment is a guided tour of Port Lincoln’s leading multi-species fish processing factory – The Fresh Fish Place.  See how local fish are filleted and packaged for sale.  We may get the chance to see experienced staff opening oysters or scallops (in season) and learn how to fillet the famous King George Whiting.  After our tour, sample a variety of tantalising products, followed by lunch here.  Early afternoon we pay a visit to the Axel Stenross Maritime Museum which features older style tools used in building wooden boats, clinker and carvel wooden dinghies, a large collection of maritime artefacts and newspaper cuttings of local fishing and boating history. Our final visit of the afternoon is at Boston Bay Winery for a wine tasting. There aren’t many wineries in the world with a more spectacular setting. Set on a hill above the shores of Boston Bay, the winery enjoys good soils, a gentle climate and cooling breezes from the Southern Ocean.

DAY 4

THE EYRE PENINSULA MONDAY 13TH MAY
Today we will be taking a look at several towns north of Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula. Our first stop is Arno Bay where we take a walk along the Arno Bay Estuary Boardwalk. The boardwalk is designed to showcase the diverse and pristine beauty of the estuary, winding through dense mangroves, mudflats and samphire with grass habitats over small tributaries. Our next visit is to Cowell Jade and Gemstones. Cowell is famous for being home to Australia's only commercial jade mine which produces rare black jade, as well as the more common greens and also some very colourful marble. Lunch today is served at the Franklin Harbour Hotel, before stopping to take a look at the painted Silo’s where the star is local identity Lionel Deer and his camel Diamantina. Lionel is most known in the Cowell community for bringing his camels to the Cowell Christmas Pageant for over 30 years. Lionel represents much of what the fabric of Cowell is made of, a true larrikin with a heart of gold. Heading back to Port Lincoln we visit another silo on the way depicting an interpretation of two boys jumping off the Tumby Bay Jetty. While in town we can take a look at several colourful street art murals painted by well known artists throughout Australia.

Testimony to this firm’s level of craftsmanship is the unprecedented honours bestowed by the International Guild of Master Craftsmen, Constantia being one of only six firms in the world to be made a fully accredited member. Constantia was commissioned to design and build the Table to the House of Representatives and the Hansard Table, the main tables for the new Parliament House in Canberra.  We have lunch at the Marina Hotel and this afternoon we join Calypso Star Charters for a 2-hour cruise through Porter, Boston and Proper Bay, then see the sites of Stanford, Winters Hills, Boston Island, The National Park and the City. On arrival we visit Templetonia Lookout for sensational views of the bay and get an insight into the local industry of oyster farming with a stop at Experience Coffin Bay! Coffin Bay is a world-famous premier oyster growing area due to the remote and pure waters of the region. From Coffin Bay continue our drive along some of the most rugged and dramatic coastline on the west coast as we make our way to Elliston. This really is a stunning area, particularly the appropriately named Great Ocean View – a section of cliff stop roadway with some remarkable views of the Great Australian Bight and Waterloo Bay.  Once in Elliston, we enjoy a BBQ lunch before being joined by a local guide who will show us the beautiful coastline and share some history of the area.
