Kangaroo Island has an abundance of wonderful wildlife and today we have a chance to get up close and personal with some of the locals. Our guide will join us on the coach today to see the world-famous Seal Bay. We’ll be taken into the heart of the colony where our experienced guide will teach us about the wonderful Australian Sea Lion. There is nowhere else in the world where you can listen to an expert give their unique insight while walking amongst the colony. Our next visit is to Raptor Domain to see the interactive and inspiring Birds of Prey demonstration followed by lunch. This afternoon explore the spectacular Flinders Chase National Park which has been experiencing a wonderful transformation since being badly impacted by the bushfires of 2020. The Park’s coastal scenery includes Admirals Arch, Remarkable Rocks and an excellent boardwalk where we see a colony of New Zealand Fur Seals below. After a fabulous day of exploration, find out just how wide the island is on our journey back to our accommodation for dinner at the hotel.

All aboard for our Sealink ferry back to the mainland. Nothing is complete without a stop at one of South Australia’s premier wine regions, McLaren Vale, known as the birthplace of the South Australian wine industry. This perfect blend of wine region and laid-back Aussie beach lifestyle has created a melting pot for all things culinary, vinous and artistic. Our lunch is at the McLaren Vale Hotel before a visit to Hardys Tintara Winery. On the main street of McLaren Vale, this winery has been at the heart and soul of the region from the very beginning. In 1878 Thomas Hardy transformed an old flour mill into one of the region’s best wine cellars, and with his success, McLaren Vale began to prosper and grow. It’s time to sit back and relax now as we continue through to the Seaside Suburb of Glenelg, our home for the next 4 nights. On arrival we have some time to explore – talk a stroll along jetty road one of Adelaide’s premier Seaside shopping and dining destinations or venture out along the iconic Glenelg Pier. Dinner tonight is in the hotel.

Once considered a sleepy city, Adelaide has undergone a rapid transformation with world-class art, music and sporting facilities to discover. Beginning with a sightseeing tour of the city and for an excellent overview of the city and its Parklands ,we make a stop at Montefiore Hill. It was from this spot that Colonel Light planned a great city of the future in the sweeping valley below. Easily seen from the Hill is Adelaide Oval, one of the most beautiful Cricket Ovals in the world. Later this morning we tour the Adelaide Oval. The redeveloped oval offers a unique blend of new and old – from the latest in stadium design to the famous features such as the heritage listed scoreboard, the century-old Moreton Bay Fig trees and the grassed northern mound. We have some free time to purchase lunch (own expense) at the Adelaide Central Markets and this afternoon head to beautiful Carrick Hill.  Carrick Hill was a creation from the imagination of a man and his wife who decided to bring, to their home city of Adelaide, some of the magic that they had been so captivated by when honeymooning in England. Sir Edward Hayward created a tudor manor house set in almost 100 acres of scenic bushland. Carrick Hill was bequeathed to the people of South Australia by Sir Edward and Lady Hayward and is now maintained by the State Government.

Today is all about exploring the Barossa Valley. We begin our touring before the wineries open, starting with a scenic drive to the Whispering Wall which is locally known as the “acoustic miracle”. It is the huge curved retaining wall of the Barossa Reservoir and is about 140 metres long.  The acoustics are such that you can speak in a normal voice and people at the other end of the wall can hear you clearly.  The effect is remarkable! It is one of those strange effects which are produced by a delightful accident!
Our next stop is Barossa Chateau.  The baroque style chateau is surrounded by 30,000 roses and filled with one of the world’s great collections of Meissen porcelain, antique furniture, tapestries and paintings.  We enjoy a guided tour of the gallery followed by a delicious High Tea lunch. There will also be time for a wander around the rose garden and take a look around the great gift shop. A visit to the Barossa would not be complete without a winery visit. We make our way to the iconic Seppeltsfield Winery, established in 1851. The history of this winery and its owners is truly fascinating, which we will hear about on our tour before we enjoy a tasting and a chance to take a look at the beautiful Jam Factory onsite with artisans’ workshops and retail outlets.  What a perfect way to end the day! Meander our way back to Adelaide for dinner at the hotel.

Following breakfast we leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and express through to Goolwa on the South Coast. Goolwa is a historic River Port where the Murray Mouth and Southern Ocean collide. On arrival we are greeted by the friendly crew aboard our ‘Spirit of the Coorong’ Murray Mouth Cruise. Sit back and relax as we journey downstream from the Port of Goolwa towards the barrage travelling through the lock chamber down to sea level. Beautiful scenery, bird and wildlife await as we meander along the waterways of the Coorong following the last kilometers of the Mighty Murray River. On arrival back at port there is time to stretch our legs and purchase lunch in the main street of Goolwa before rejoining the coach for Beerenberg Strawberry Farm at Strathalbyn . Beerenberg products can now be found in 24 countries, on major airlines and in more than 300 hotels! The remainder of our afternoon will be spent exploring Hahndorf with its quaint tree-lined main street steeped in German history. From cheesemakers, chocolatiers, candlestick makers, galleries, distilleries, cellar doors and gift shops, Hahndorf has it all! After a wonderful day of exploration, we make our way back to the hotel with time to relax a little before our final dinner.
