DAY 3

MONARTO SAFARI PARK, THE LIONS & SUNSET SAFARI TUESDAY 14TH APRIL
Today we immerse ourselves in the sights, smells and sounds of the savannah as we travel across the open plains through herds of animals seemingly free to roam – safari style. With over 50 species of native and African animals, the safari park plays a major role, nationally and internationally, in breeding programs for rare and endangered species. We have time to purchase lunch before we embark on The Lions 360 Experience - a real treat! It’s Australia’s only 360-degree lion encounter which gives you a prey’s eye view into the world of these incredible predators. Walking through the tunnel, we’ll emerge within clawing range of one of Australia’s largest lion prides. The safe but adventurous encounter will leave us amazed. Tonight, soak in the last rays of the sun on a guided tour of the Wild Africa precinct after hours from the Safari Truck.

DAY 4

MONARTO – ADELAIDE via HAHNDORF WEDNESDAY 15TH APRIL
Today we visit Hahndorf, located in the Adelaide Hills. The town is a superb “flashback” to the nineteenth century with its shops, eateries and attractions housed in authentic surroundings. Upon arrival we are welcomed by a local expert and embark on a unique walking tour, delving into the hidden gems and rich history of the town. Following our tour, enjoy some time at leisure on the main street before we learn about a world renowned artist, Hans Heysen, who settled in 1908 and built his studio ‘The Cedars” in the style of a Bavarian Chalet. Enjoy a guided tour of the house, the studio (which has been kept just the way Hans Heysen left it, including some unfinished sketches) and the extensive gardens. This was his base as he painted extensively onsite in the hills around Hahndorf and in the Flinders Ranges. Following our tour, we head to our waterfront accommodation in Glenelg with a stop at the Mount Lofty Lookout to admire the views across Adelaide and the coastline.
Accommodation: Stamford Grand Adelaide (4 nights)

DAY 5

EXPLORING ADELAIDE THURSDAY 16TH APRIL
Today will be spent exploring Adelaide. The city’s Central Business District is surrounded by parklands, or the Green Belt as it’s known. For an excellent overview of the city and its parklands we make a stop at Montefiore Hill. It was from this spot that Colonel Light planned a great city of the future in the sweeping valley below. Easily seen from the hill is Adelaide Oval, one of the most beautiful cricket ovals in the world. Another landmark close by is St Peters Cathedral, which overlooks the city from North Adelaide. Next we head to the banks of the Torrens River and board the Popeye Cruise for a High Tea and take in the iconic sights of Adelaide. From here it’s not far to The Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Spend the remainder of our afternoon among 50 hectares of magnificently maintained gardens and stunning architecture. Within the botanic gardens is The Palm House. It’s an exquisite, painstakingly restored Victorian glasshouse imported from Bremen, Germany in 1875. After exploring the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Gardens, we are head back to the hotel.

DAY 6

THE SOUTH COAST FRIDAY 17TH APRIL
Following breakfast, we travel out of Adelaide to the coastal town of Victor Harbor. Enjoy a brief sightseeing tour, then have morning tea at the Causeway Café followed by some free time to look through the local shops. Early afternoon we board the Cockle Train for the one-way journey along the coast to Goolwa. The Cockle Train travels along the oldest steel railed railway in Australia dating back to 1854 when it was constructed to provide a link between the River Murray and the ocean wharfs at Pt Elliot and later at Victor Harbor. In early days of settlement, the local residents would take a horse drawn train to Goolwa to collect cockles from the sandy beaches near the Murray mouth. It was a great day's outing and thus gained its name. From Goolwa we make our way back to our accommodation for dinner.

DAY 7

ADELAIDE MARKET & MANSION SATURDAY 18TH APRIL
This morning board the tram to visit Adelaide’s famous Central Market in the heart of the city. The Central Market has over 80 stalls and is South Australia's most visited tourist attraction. During the Adelaide Central Market Tour, taste a delicious selection of foods from South Australian artisan food producers, meet the suppliers, stallholders and producers whose families have traded at the market for generations. We have some free time at the markets to purchase lunch and goodies before visiting one of Adelaide’s stunning residential olde world mansions called Carrick Hill. This building was a creation from the imagination of a man and his wife who decided to bring, to their home city of Adelaide, some of the magic that they had been so captivated by when honeymooning in England. Sir Edward Hayward created a Tudor manor house set in almost 100 acres of scenic bushland. Carrick Hill was bequeathed to the people of South Australia by Sir Edward and Lady Hayward and is now maintained by the State Government. We enjoy a guided tour to finish off our day. Arriving back in the hotel, we have some time to freshen up before dinner.
